Beau Rivage Theatre
May 31, 2002

You know how you have that little bit of electricity flowing through your veins even the morning after seeing a spectacular concert?  It's buzzing out of my fingertips right now.  I was privileged to attend the third stop on Mr. Fogelberg's summer '02 tour.  Little ole' Biloxi, Mississippi played host to an intimate crowd of around 1500 last night at the Beau Rivage Resort/Casino Theatre.  I must say, for a couple of hours we were all in heaven.

It was a special night for all of us, but especially his parents-in-law, to which he dedicated the show.  They were in attendance celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  After the first set he came out to serenade us with some acoustic songs.  He welcomed his family and just prior to playing "Make Love Stay" he commented on their 50 years together and said "...there is hope."  Hopefully he's finally found his place of warmth and love with his wife Jeannie.

Just as I was wiping the mist from my eyes he was ready to rock with the band and perform some electric tunes.  The guys in the band were fantastic, the sound was awesome, the mood was more than enthusiastic.  The finale was a tribute to George Harrison.  Jeannie came out to accompany him with background vocals and tambourine.  They left the stage arm in arm and leaving us wanting more.

For spanning a 30 year career, he's still got it and gives it all out.   Fifteen years ago I sat on a grass lawn smiling, crying, singing along and hoping one day I'd again be blessed to feel the heavy air full of song.  Last night my wish came true.  This time even more.  I took my 'Complete Songs Volume I' in the faint hopes of getting it signed.  Someone was looking out for me, because I left a very happy woman.  Now I have a very special book to pass along to my son (age 7) who also enjoys Mr. Fogelberg's music.

I feel as if there is no way to thank Dan enough for sharing his talent with us.  All I know to do is continue to enjoy his art and music and to share it with our young ones so they may do the same.  At the risk of sounding trite, I mentioned his music is like the threads of a tapestry woven throughout our lives.  Each song, each thread, has a meaning - a memory of a time and place in our lives.  Once the pattern is finished we can share its beauty with others as he has with us.

Beau Rivage Theatre, Biloxi, MS ~ Friday, May 31, 2002

The Beau Rivage concert was short, but oh so sweet....my 8th Dan concert was a little disappointing simply because it just didn't last long enough--he played only about an hour and twenty minutes.  The Beau Rivage Theatre was a beautiful, intimate setting, and perfect for my favorite singer/songwriter/musician of all time.  Dan looked great, sounded great, and he seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself.  His band was excellent.

During his solo acoustic set, Dan dedicated "Make Love Stay" to his parents-in-law who were in the audience.  I believe he said that they were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  As always, he sang the song beautifully, as he also sang Leader of the Band.  I really enjoyed watching him play lead on Missing You, as his guitar skills were as polished as ever!  After the last set, he gave us only one encore and at that time, his wife, Jean, a pretty blonde, joined him on stage singing background vocals on a George Harrison song.

Despite the quantity of the music in Dan's Beau Rivage show, I must say the quality was excellent!  I'm just thankful that he included Mississippi in his 2002 tour, and I'm very much looking forward to the release of his new CD.

Note to Dan ~ I love and appreciate you ~ thanks so much for 30 years of awesome music ~ you're the best!

Ah, Chastain - Another review...

Dan Fogelberg ~ Ever On Group

Chastain... what a truly unique and wonderful place (which Dan still pronounces Shastain), especially in such great company. For those of you who´ve never been there or haven´t seen the Chastain website, I´m attaching a picture of the packed venue (the small guys in the spotlight to the right are you who-know-who and his band; for close-up shots please refer to my earlier Ft. Worth review).

About 6,500 people came out to the Atlanta suburbs, packed (like we were) with ice chests, wine, food and – of course – candles for atmosphere. Dan´s show began at 8.50, and – as band member Robert McEntee told us after the show – due to neighborhood noise restrictions was cut down to 20 selections (instead of the 23 we heard in Ft. Worth); missing from the setlist were “Forefathers”, “Old Tennessee” and “Believe in Me”.

We had been warned that some of the regulars at Chastain (we don´t really have comparabele places in Europe, but that also applies to the way they sell their tickets) might not have a clue who Dan was, but judging from the crowd reaction, if there were any ignorant people out there in the good seats, they were obviously as smitten by the performance as the real DanFans on the far-away seats.

A warm southern night under bright stars, slightly more than two hours of excellent music (great sound system for an open-air venue!) and even live video coverage of the stage events on two giant monitors up left and right of the stage – which certainly made up for being so far away.

I for one didn´t mind the on-stage choice shoes or shirts (even though I did wear boots and had left my sandals “home” for the occasion). As mentioned before, we also got to talk to Robert McEntee after the show (thanks for taking the time and getting the sharpie!) at length; he´s a veteran member of Dan´s band and has both played an Greetings From the West and the River of Souls album. I´m also including one of the snapshots he posed for.

So, all in all – even though the performance was a little a shorter than the first one we got to see, it was just as energetic and great. Dan had to work the crowd a little harder for sure, but at least there was no trace of audience noise or hassles. Great show, great audience (especially around selected tables to the stage right and middle, haha)! I'd love to see DF at that venue again for sure, almost as good as Red Rocks, and it's definitely a lot warmer than up in the Rockies. But I guess we'll fly over to the States (any state!) for any future Dan tour, and that includes Nome/Alaska.

Brett, you missed a treat!

Just had to tell you about the Biloxi, MS show on May 31st. It was totally awesome. The last time I saw Dan in concert was 1994-95 and I was really looking forward to the show. The venue (Beau Rivage Theater) is perfect for Dan. His vocals were tight and the music even tighter. His in-laws were in the audience celebrating their 50th anniversary. Needless to say, it was a wonderful night.

Thanks, Dan, for all the great music and memories!
