Man In The Mirror

This song is on Dan Fogelberg's "Captured Angel" album released in 1975-This was the first album of his that I bought-I now have the CD
It is a medley with his song "Below The Surface
The album was produced by Fogelberg. He alone recorded all of the instrumental parts before being convinced by his label to allow for a few re-recordings and contributions by other musicians
The The majority of the album was recorded at a studio in South Pekin, Illinois; Fogelberg had returned home to care for his ill father
Stereo Review praised Fogelberg's musicianship but wrote that as a singer "he sounds raw, unsure, and at times even amateurish, particularly when any emotionality is involved
I praise Dan's musicianship too, but I strongly disagree with the what the rest of what Stereo Review had to say about him

The man in the mirror
He keeps getting nearer
But I am not moving
The man in the back street
Is holding a track meet
But I will not run
Someplace inside you
A seed has been born
You've got to watch it grow
Someplace inside you
A river is waiting to flow
Will you let it go

Those voices you're hearing
Are never worth fearing
They're only inside you
They'll tempt you and taunt you
They'll help you and haunt you
But don't try to hide

Sometimes the sun will be
Right at your shoulder
Helping you keep your stride
Sometimes you might have to
Give up a piece of your pride
Have you even tried

The man in the mirror
He keeps getting nearer
But I am not moving
The man in the back street
Is holding a track meet
But I will not run
Someplace inside you
A seed has been born
You've got to watch it grow
Someplace inside you
A river is waiting to flow
Will you let it go
