The Minstrel

This song is on Dan Fogelberg's album "River of Souls" released in September 1993-I bought the cassette when it came out and now I have the CD
The album features a variety of genres ranging from Celtic, Brazilian, country, and African soft rock
It received mostly positive reviews from fans and critics alike, praising the instrumentation and vocals
However, some of the song's topics, which included war and politics, were not well received
I have a "River Of Souls" shirt
Dan says this about this song he wrote
Written in the wintery Rockies dreaming of all the warm, windy days of summer
Dedicated to all my hopelessly romantic friends in Maine who still derive deep pleasure from the care and handling of wooden sailboats
Dan Fogelberg – vocals, keyboards, bass guitar, acoustic piano
Mike Botts - bass drum, hi-hat (a combination of two cymbals and a pedal, all mounted on a metal stand. It is a part of the standard drum kit)
Russ Kunkel - Cymbal
Pam Boulding – hammered dulcimer (a percussion-stringed instrument which consists of strings typically stretched over a trapezoidal resonant sound board)
Philip Boulding – pennywhistle (a simple six-holed woodwind instrument), Celtic harp
David Campbell – orchestra arrangements, conductor
Producer – Dan Fogelberg
Executive Producer – Remington Buckaroo Boone, Dan's Maine Coon Cat-On July 12,2000 when I saw Dan in concert at Humphreys by the bay in San Diego, California, he did an instrumental called "Buckaroos Midnight Ramble" about that cat
On July 20,2001 when I saw Dan Fogelberg in concert at the Belterra Casino in Vevay, Indiana he also did an instrumental called "Buckaroos Midnight Ramble" about that cat

This picture is of Dan Fogelberg on his boat "The Minstrel"

There's a love in my life
Neither mistress or wife
And she waits for me
Every morning by the sea
Where the fishing hawk wheels
And the sun warms the seals
There she lays at her
Silent anchorage for me

She is fine, she is fleet
She will run, reach or beat
With a song in her rigging
And her sails
And when day is done
We will lay two as one
And sleep 'neath the
Rolling rhythm of the stars

And we sail away
Off to Jericho Bay
Where the blue of the sea
Meets the sky
And the song that she sings me
It brings me such peace
When the seas rise up
Angry and high
She's a friend of mine
~ The Minstrel

There are loons off to port
And the porpoises sport
In her wake as she breaks
The rolling main
And with the wind in her sails
We will run with the whales
As they swim through their dark
Diminishing domain

And we sail away
Off to Jericho Bay
Where the blue of the sea
Meets the sky
And the song that she sings me
It brings me such peace
When the seas rise up
Angry and high
She's a friend of mine
~ The Minstrel
