My wife and I attended Dan's concert in South Bend last night. WOW! He and his band were at the very pinnacle of perfection: crisp, clear vocals, brilliant ballads, hard drivin' rock, blues, an audience sing-along to the encore (A Place in the World for a Gambler), and even a brief ad lib of the Beatles' "Day Tripper". Dan and the master musicians on stage with him provided an evening's entertainment worth twice the amount of admission, and they all seemed to feed off each other's energy. Mark Andes and Robert Mcyntee were featured on a couple of tunes, and drummer Joe Vitale's flute solo on Firefall's "Strange Way to Love Me" was outstanding. But Dan, of course, was the show's featured craftsman: impeccable vocals, rockin' lead guitar riffs, and extraordinary piano artistry. But, if you're a Dan Fogelberg fan, you already know all this. If you haven't made plans for this 30th Anniversary Tour, do so now. Travel as far as need be to catch one of the remaining dates of this unforgettable performance.
