Hey!!

I went to the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs last night for another great night of Dan Fogelberg's music!!  I have seen him from NY to Colorado (about 8 times) and he hasn't lost anything.  I think his voice and talents may have even improved over the years!!  He didn't have his band with him and although I really enjoyed the acoustic tour I did miss the songs he didn't play because of the band not being there.   But if you get a chance to see him whether it is your first or 100th time-you will love it!!

A massive thunderstorm had hit Colorado Springs in the afternoon, but by the time the doors to Pikes Peak were opened the sun was out again. The 1982-built concert hall usually features musicals and has excellent acoustics; all 2,500 seats for Dan's performance on Sunday night were sold out in advance.

The opening act, blonde Denver-based singer Kristina Ingham, was greeted warmly but alienated at least half of the audience pretty quickly with her repetitive material of six-string strumming and uninspired vocals.

Dan hit the stage at 8.30, welcomed by standing ovations from an enthusiastic crowd that included some of his friends and family. He came across as very relaxed and funny that night, cracking jokes between songs ("... some songs you might not know, some songs I might not know"... "...from my album Twin Sons of Different Lawyers") and reacting to shouts from the audience with witty remarks ("See, Fogelberg can use machinery" or "We tune, we care" during severe tuning problems).

The setlist at Pikes Peak sadly did not include any new material, but all of the 18 selections that night were performed intimately and flawlessly:

Nexus Go Down Easy Hard to Say Forefathers Beggar´s Game Paris Nocturne Don´t Lose Heart Bones in the Sky Make Love Stay Road Beneath My Wheels Lazy Susan Buckaroo´s Midnight Ramble Run For the Roses Longer Leader of the Band Part of the Plan Same Old Lang Syne Along the Road

Dan tried to give his left hand as many breaks as possible during the 110-minute performance and repeatedly operated a lot with talcum powder ("Special effects, I´m competing with N-Sync in this business! Magic!!!"). Another running joke was last year´s Denver Post review about his shirt choice which made Dan flash his new serious outfit throughout the show, even inviting one "Nice shirt"-shouter to the next show in Denver.

All in all, an intimate and excellent performance made special by Dan´s excellent humor in front of his home crowd which broke out in cheers whenever he mentioned his home-sweet-home in words or song lyrics.
