Promise Not To Tell Her

If you promise not to tell her you've been here
Then I think the chances have become quite clear
That if you want to stay here
Then we could become quite near
If you promise not to tell her you've been here

If you promise not to tell her you've been 'round
Then I know that you'll agree that it is sound
'Cause I do want you to stay
And I'm sure we'll find a way
If you promise not to tell her you've been 'round

Chorus:
I Don't know what I possibly could do
I can think of nothing but you!

Guitar solo

Chorus:
I Don't know what I possibly could do
I can think of nothing but you!

When she finds out you've been here, then she will cry
And there's really no where we can ever hide
But I do want you to stay
And I'm sure we'll find a way
If you promise not to tell her you've been here
If you promise not to tell her you've been here
If you promise not to tell her you've been here

"Promise Not To Tell Her" is a song about new, unbridled passion in the wake of love's labor lost. While the old flame has been extinguished and the embers are cooling, the spark of a new one has been ignited in its place. Even though his old love no longer holds the same place in his heart, he still does not want to hurt her feelings, so he pleads with his new love to promise not to tell his old love about her. However, he knows that this new love cannot remain a secret forever, and that ultimately, there is no place for him and his new love to hide, and that his old love will, unfortunately, suffer the pain of knowing that he has found someone new to take her place...
