Sound.
I used to play at varied size venues. Regardless of what the size is, how much you set up for the size of the place, many things factor into the actual outcome of what the audience hears. Now a guy on the actual board running sound may hear every harmonic note Dan hits on that guitar because techs have the luxury of headphones to hear what it is being played. They are left believing that what they hear out of those headphones is what we are going to hear, and I'm sorry, but I've yet to see that be the case. I don't think it gets corrected until the venue has the audience present and the noise from everything is included into the situation as well. Until all factors are added in, and there's an actual song being done, Dan nor the sound people can be exactly sure if what they did to preset the sound system will be up to the artists satisfaction and those of us in the audience.

It wasn't that it was working horribly at HOB, but it was far from the sound of the previous show from beginning to end. Still, for my money give me Dan and that darn hard to hear the harmonics guitar any day of the week over anyone else on stage today.

Plus everyone should understand, or think about the fact, when one plays a solo gig, and they are the only person on the stage. They don't have the luxury of pawning off conversing with the sound guys to the drummer or bassist, it's only the solo artist out there. Not allowing the artist the luxury of getting the sound correct during the show is not fair to him/her, because all they are trying to do is get it right for us that are out there listening to what we hope is as near perfection as possible.

Two puppies!!! (Each thinking today they are each others' chew toy) anybody got an aspirin?
