The Sun Theatre is a great small venue and it was a treat to see Dan there.
Yes, he did sing a very standard play list that he has been playing for the
last 2-3 years but he still puts his heart into it and his voice is still
velvet. He was in a lighhearted mood and joked around with the crowd a bit.
He did an especially beautiful rendition of Forefathers. To the Morning was
absolutely the highlight of the show. I am continually amazed at the sounds
that come out of that grand (with midi) piano of his. Truly beautiful. The
Reach is always a highlight for me and Dan didn't disappoint us on this one.
In fact, he asked the audience if anyone had seen the movie "A Perfect
Storm" and made a comment that he hoped it would make the seas less
populated. When Dan plays his 12-string, well, it doesn't get much better
than this.
He did a very pretty "Longer", not one of my favorites, but he played it
lovely. He also played some beautiful Baroque guitar music that didn't make
it on the Christmas CD. He played one new song, that he said was was PG-13
and had some nudity in it (I screamed out "Whose nudity", no response). It
was a solid song and very sensual.
OK, so I would've liked to hear Illinois, The Last Nail, Stars, name your
favorite. But I could listen to Dan play the standards Over and Over again.
And he played that song too, with some very nice piano improvisation.
